in between sleeping
Hello!
I'm Georgina, and I'm a twenty-something from the UK.
I started in between sleeping in 2018, mostly as an outlet for my thoughts and wonderings.
I've always loved writing, and I could win 'Overthinker of the Year' if there ever was such an award, so writing a blog was probably an inevitability!
What's this all about?
Everything and nothing? (Not a very good answer, I know.)

The thing is, I tend to just write when inspiration strikes or something feels important to talk about. Over the years, I've talked about topics such as mental health, allergies, travelling observations, media representation, sustainability, and a sea otter named Joey.
All of this is to say - I don't have a 'niche'. I'm not an expert in anything but my own experiences, thoughts, and feelings (and even that's up for debate sometimes!). I'm a curious person, so I'll write about or explore different things at different times. I enjoy sharing my experiences or views on here, but I'm also keen to get other people's perspectives on various topics.

Allergies
I have lived with severe food allergies since I was little, and I enjoy writing about restaurants or hotels that have been particularly brilliant in regards to this. I find these types of articles helpful when I'm looking for places myself, so I'm doing my bit to contribute.

Living with allergies can be a bit of a minefield, and it can be hard to find places that completely understand how to operate safely and why it is important. Therefore, I think it's really important to highlight those that are doing it right, and to show them off!

I may also write about personal experiences living with allergies, or how I feel about particular topics within the allergy world.

All in all, if you're looking for allergy-related bits and pieces - you're in the right place!
Travel
Until 2018, I had only really travelled with family or on school trips. I hadn't visited or flown anywhere alone, or even with friends.

I decided to take a gap year, and since my friends were all busy, it was a solo trip. My first trip without family or friends, and somehow, I decided on the furthest place I could think of. I settled on Australia, with a stop-over in Singapore and a trip to Hong Kong afterwards.

It was a brilliant trip, although not without its stresses. I learnt from those, and later that year, I ventured off on my own again to North America. I spent a few days in New York before joining a TrekAmerica trip in Vancouver to explore the Canadian Rockies. I loved this whole trip from start to finish, and I met great people - one of whom is now a very close friend.

These trips, as well as family trips, have inspired a real love of exploring the world. I like to write about restaurants or hotels I've loved, and observations I've made whilst travelling.
Health
My first ever post on this blog was about the state of mental health services here in the UK. I've been interested in Psychology for a long time, and feel strongly about mental health and wellbeing.

However, when I was developing the 'categories' for the blog, I realised that I wanted to talk about other health issues too. The reason for this being that I have lived with various chronic health issues for a number of years, and did not want to cut myself off from talking about it. This led me to title this category simply 'Health', instead of 'Mental Health'.

This also allows me to include an article that is very important to me. In 2020, I conducted an independent research project on the impacts that a young sea otter pup named Joey had on people's wellbeing. Joey was incredibly important to hundreds of people, and helped to support their health and wellbeing.

Health is a very personal topic - not just for me, but for many others. I will never offer medical or psychological advice, but may signpost to relevant organisations where necessary.
Life
This category is for everything that doesn't fall into the first three!

I couldn't quite figure out a category name that fits, so 'Life' will have to do.
For example, I'm really passionate about representation - particularly in the media. As someone who falls into the 'Mixed Race - Other' category on forms, I am keen on seeing not just more representation on our screens but a greater variety of it.

I'm also pretty keen on keeping the planet alive, and I've written about that before too.

But...I don't write enough about either of the two to make dedicated categories, so they fall into 'Life'.

Who knows what else will end up in there?
